Non-Photographic Stereo Images

These are a variety of images that show the possibilities behind non-photographic stereo imaging, or stereoscopic drawing. This is something I'm very interested in - I just wish I had even a modicum of drawing talent to give it a try. I'm especially interested in fantasy and science fiction stereo art. If you know of any good sites or sources, please don't hesitate to let me know via email at phillips@nccu.edu.tw. If you would like to put some images here, with links to your own site or stand alone, let me know. All rights reserved to the respective image owner, if I have inadvertently left an image section unattributed, please let me know and I'll fix it right away.

Phillips Family Stereo Images: Loreo Set

Here are a series of stereo photographs of my family. The incredibly cute little girl is my daughter Kaye Elizabeth Yi-Chi Phillips mostly at age "three-and-almost-a-half" to "four-and-don't-you-forget-it." The beautiful woman is my heart and wife, Lorraine Yuk-Lan Phillips. Most of these were taken by me . . . except for the ones I'm in (you'll be able to tell, I'm the rotund fellow surrounded by beautiful women). All of the images in this set were taken with a Loreo stereo camera. These are some of my earliest work with stereophotography so some may not be as sophisticated as later images. However, I keep them here for family, friends, and others who are enchanted with the subjects of the photos as much as I. More recent and non-Loreo images are located elsewhere on these pages.

Student "Family" Reunion
and
Student-Teacher Softball Game
Fall 1999

These are photos taken in the post-game portion of the combination "student family reunion" and "student teacher softball game" held by the English Department of National Chengchi University in Taipei on 02 October 1999. The group photo was taken by Lorraine Yuk-Lan Law Phillips with an Olympus Camedia C-900ZOOM digital camera. The "3d" series were all taken by Brian David Phillips with twin Ricoh 35-R Date cameras with shutter sync on a twin bar.

For interested students, the "English Club" has a CD copy of the high-quality images from this set, the images presented here have been modified for faster display on the web. The index and group photos are here.

Conversation Class
Pot-Luck-Snack Party
1999

These are photos taken of the pot-luck-snack party held in my home on 09 June 1999 for my Freshman English Conversation classes at National Chengchi University. There were students from three separate classes in attendance and it was a lot of fun (well, I enjoyed myself and I know my daughter Kaye had a great time with so many beautiful big sisters around to spoil her - she was even nice enough to share her dancing station for the Sony Playstation with "her" visitors - Lorraine made some wonderful salsa for the chips and delicious orange cake). Unfortunately I didn't do as good a job of getting everyone into the photos as I would have liked since I was having too much fun to take pictures but I did get most folks. The 1998-1999 freshman classes were a joy to teach. All of the images in this set were taken with a Loreo stereo camera.

Cosplayers

The following images are of cosplayers from Japan dressed like their favorite comic book, cartoon, and PC game characters. Each image pair is displayed full size in parallel view and then again in reduced size for easier viewing in both parallel and cross-eyed views. Cosplayers are people who construct their own costumes and then show them at related conventions and gatherings - they are usually expected to role play the character in addition to wearing the costume. This has become somewhat of a trendy hobby in Japan. For more about cosplaying, see the cosplay resources section of my interactive drama resources page at Shakespeare Eclectic Science Fiction Interactive Theatre. These photos were originally housed at Shilo Teshima's defunct stereo photography page. See Planet 16-16 at http://www.ne.jp/asahi/planet/16-16/ for even more images by Shilo. The Taipei Interactive Theatre Society also has quite a few stereophotographic cosplay images.

Antique Stereographs: Taiwan and China

This series of images date from 1860 to the early 1920's. The images are mostly of Taiwan (both during the Japanese colonial period and after) but there are some very nice ones of Ching era China too. All of these stereo photographs come from the collection of Lee Chin-Song, Taiwan's premiere stereo photographer (see the information pages for more).

Marilyn Monroe Images

Marilyn Monroe in 3D. Silent screen star Harold Lloyd took these stereo pictures of Marilyn. These are parallel view stereos; to view, relax your eyes so that the two images merge into one. Source for these images: Suzanne Lloyd Hayes. 3-D Hollywood. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1992.
